About me

My name is Kelli Watkins and I am a former physical therapist working towards a certificate in front end development through Turing School of Software and Design.

I spent the last 8 years working as a physical therapist in an inpatient rehabilitation facility. I became very good at thinking on my feet and being able to adapt to constant change. I also developed excellent communication skills, having to adapt my style based on my audience - doctors, patients, nurses, family members, therapists, etc. I am a very empathetic person and am proud of my ability to listen to people to truly understand what they are asking. I have become very comfortable working in fast-paced, constantly changing environments.

I am excited to find my first job on this new career path that will allow me to utilize the skills I have built, as well as utilize my creativity and independence, while still doing what I value most - helping people.

Connect with me at watkinskellil@gmail.com if you are interested in hiring a professional who is eager to jump into her next career.

Bootleg Barkeep is a Prohibition-era themed cocktail app that presents the user with the ability to search for cocktails by their base alcohol type, to see a given cocktails' ingredients and preparation instructions, and that provides the user with randomized suggestions of drinks to try. It was created by a team of 4 front-end developers using TypeScript, React, Cypress, and GitHub.

This web application was developed as a Mod 3 Stretch Tech project. Students were given license to research and implement a technology, not otherwise addressed within the program's curriculum, over the course of ten days. For this project, the contributors chose to integrate TypeScript, a type-safe superset of JavaScript.

BeerMe is a brewery app that presents the user with the ability to search for breweries by state and to see a given brewery's city, address, and website. This web application was developed for my Mod 3 Showcase Project. Students were asked to select an API and create a website using React, Router, and Cypress within a 5 day time period.

Since this was a solo project, my main goals were to spend a decent amount of time planning out this project (component architecture, break down tasks using GitHub Projects, set a timeline for completion) and to create a simple yet functional website.
