About me

Hey there! I'm a cat-loving, pinball-playing, karaoke enthusiast who flourished in hospitality and customer service for 15 years. My passion for wine and spirits inspired me to create educational beverage programs, enabling teams to provide highly-curated guest experiences. This dynamic environment honed my ability to tackle challenges, manage complex tasks, and excel in team settings. The connections I made with diverse individuals sparked my interest in technology's potential to uplift people worldwide, leading me to pursue a career in tech.

As a front-end student at the Turing School for Software & Design, I'm sharpening my skills in JavaScript, React, HTML, CSS, Cypress, Mocha/Chai, Github & Github Projects, RESTful APIs, Heroku, Node/NPM, ARIA Accessibility, and Responsive Design. I'm eager to apply my problem-solving abilities and adaptability in the ever-evolving world of software development.

I'm seeking a mission-driven company with a team that values collaboration, communication, and empathy. I'm excited to harness technology for the greater good, whether through developing apps connecting people with resources or designing websites that enrich daily life.

If you're looking for someone passionate about making a positive impact with tech, or if you'd like to chat about cats, pinball, or karaoke, feel free to email me at Lauren.Unal@Gmail.com or send a DM! Let's connect!

Ruffled Rants is a jovial and engaging web application designed for cat-loving thespians who desire to translate modern English into Shakespearean language. Users can type in any text and instantly receive a witty and dramatic translation while also having access to their previous translations on the history page. In this short 5-day sprint, I worked independently to implement an MVP with responsive design and thorough testing.

Built using React, Router, and Cypress, the project involved integrating and utilizing data from an unfamiliar API to enhance the app's functionality. I efficiently created and followed user stories to ensure features catered to a very niche target audience and thoroughly tested user flows with ample error handling using Cypress.

I was able to not only strengthen my technical, organizational, and problem-solving skills but also showcase my adaptability and 'true grit' determination to deliver under tight deadlines.

ZingerZ is a retro-themed web application that entertains users with a continuous stream of random dad jokes or allows them to search for specific jokes using keywords. As a team of four developers, our main learning goal for this project was to self-teach and implement TypeScript for improved code organization and enhanced type safety. We also focused on utilizing React and Router to create a seamless user experience and conducted comprehensive user flow testing with Cypress.

One of our stretch goals we achieved was efficiently integrating and utilizing data from an unfamiliar API to enhance the app's functionality. Throughout the project, I specifically focused on intuitive routing and prioritizing user experience by providing multiple ways to navigate back to the main page, including a responsive design for various devices.

By working collaboratively, using Agile methodology and GitHub Projects, we were able to troubleshoot bugs and make informed decisions. This approach led to a steady pace that surpassed our milestones and resulted in a successful MVP. Our experience with ZingerZ allowed us to strengthen our technical skills and gain a deeper understanding of the importance of effective teamwork in software development.
