About me

The short: Former pastry chef seeking career fulfillment as a software developer to complement a passion for rock climbing.

The long: Before enrolling at Turing, my life took a circuitous road through architecture, organic farming, and food service. Along the way, my drive for continual growth and mastery has been the thread. Over nearly a decade in the restaurant industry, I honed my strategic-thinking and creative problem-solving skills until I reached a point where I felt I was no longer learning and the lifestyle was no longer sustainable. An enduring interest in language, layout, and design stretching all the way back to my time as Editor-in-Chief of the school newspaper led me to front end engineering. My background in architecture and sculpture; as well as a healthy pinch of perfectionism, will make me a valuable asset to any software engineering team that is interested in crafting beautiful products.

CYOA is an app for adventurous people who are ready to move to a different city but want a little help from the Magic 8 Ball in deciding. Liked cities are saved to favorites, if it's a "Nope", you won’t see it again. (Think: Tinder for cities!)

Although this was a solo project, I mimicked an agile workflow as closely as possible, utilizing continuous deployment from the beginning of the project, testing as I went, and creating robust project iterations and user stories. Check out my project board on GitHub!

This project was completed as part of a "Stretch Tech" project in Mod 3 at Turing. It was a 4 person project and we learned TypeScript in React over the course of 10 days. It was presented at Code Fair.
