About me

I am a Front-End Software Engineer who is passionate about expanding my expertise in the field of web development. I thrive in teams where communication is used in conjunction with agile development to produce a product promised by an impactful mission statement. To keep my mind crisp, I use my free time to dive into technical blogs and articles for my own interest, or to help me build fun projects. I also like to step away to pursue passions in cooking, cycling, hiking, and DJing. I truly believe: if one knows the way broadly, they will see it in all things.

This project was made from the idea of helping those with Dementia and Alzheimers recall memories using the memory palace technique. We created an illustrated home with rooms that hold clickable memories. Given our understanding of our user we designed this application specifically for ipad use. We also chose not to implement an authorization feature in this iteration as it isn't helpful for our Users to be frustrated by a password.

The memory palace technique is a way to help strengthen recall by tying a memory to an object, that isn't necessarily related to the memory. Whenever you want to visit that moment you bring up the object it was associated with. With this project we tried to engage the senses by seeing old photos, describing the events, listing smells, and in future songs they loved or heard at the time.

We decided to take on a project idea, which is intended to solve an issue regarding housing and practical experience for college students who plan to enter the medical field. In addition, this would also solve the issue for older adults, who wish to age in place, or maintain some independence by continuing to live in their own home. The idea is to give students in the college of Health and Human Sciences the chance to live with an older adult rent-free in exchange for trips to doctor's appointments, help with mobility, medications, and general activities of daily living. The Silver Nest Server is a database that enables our application to house data specific to an older adult who wishes to be involved with this program. From here, data is displayed in the app for students to find an older adult with needs they feel most suited to assist with.
